Emergency services have responded to multiple impact sites across central Israel following a heavy barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles. Military officials confirm that several warheads were cluster munitions, which scattered submunitions across residential and commercial zones, complicating rescue efforts and increasing the risk to civilians.
Casualty and Injury Report
Magen David Adom (MDA) and the Ministry of Health have provided the following updates on those affected:
- Direct Injuries: Two men in their 50s sustained light injuries from shrapnel while in the Tel Aviv area.
- Residential Impacts: In Holon, an elderly couple (both in their 80s) were treated for smoke inhalation and minor wounds from shattered glass after a submunition ignited a fire in their building.
- Secondary Trauma: Dozens of people were treated for severe anxiety or minor physical injuries (falls and bruises) sustained while seeking cover.
- Hospitalization Summary: A total of 108 individuals have been admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours. The majority are in stable condition, with two listed in moderate condition.
Active Safety Warning
The Israel Police and Home Front Command have issued an urgent alert:
“Do not approach or touch missile debris.” > Many submunitions from cluster bombs fail to explode on impact and remain highly volatile. They are designed to look innocuous but can detonate if moved.
Defense Performance
While the Arrow and David’s Sling systems successfully intercepted the majority of the incoming threats, the “cluster” nature of these specific warheads allows for some debris and submunitions to bypass the “hermetic” seal of the air defense shield, leading to the scattered damage reported in Holon and Tel Aviv.
