The convicted Soham murderer, Ian Huntley, has died at the age of 52. His death follows a violent targeted attack that took place inside HMP Frankland in late February 2026.

- February 26: Huntley was brutally assaulted in a prison workshop, allegedly by another inmate using a makeshift weapon. He sustained catastrophic head injuries and was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
- The Aftermath: Huntley was placed in a medically induced coma. Medical staff eventually determined that the damage was irreversible.
- March 7: Following the withdrawal of life support, Huntley was pronounced dead on Saturday morning.
The Investigation
Authorities have identified Anthony Russell, a fellow inmate already serving a whole-life sentence for triple murder, as the primary suspect. The incident is currently being investigated as a homicide by local police and the Prison and Probation Ombudsman.
