A series of Israeli airstrikes and shelling across the Gaza Strip has left at least 19 people dead, including women and children. The strikes mark one of the deadliest days since the October 10 ceasefire was enacted, signaling a precarious moment for regional stability.

The casualties were spread across several sectors of the enclave:
- Northern Gaza: In the Tuffah neighborhood, a single strike killed 11 family members. Among the victims were a 10-day-old infant and a grandmother.
- Southern Gaza: In Khan Younis, an attack on a tent camp killed three, including a 12-year-old. A separate strike in the Muwasi “humanitarian zone” killed a paramedic.
- Gaza City: Shelling in the Zaytoun district claimed the lives of three people, including a married couple.
The Catalyst: Allegations of Broken Terms
- The Incident: Israel reports that militants opened fire on its troops, seriously wounding a reservist soldier.
- The Position: Israel maintains that any hostile fire is a fundamental breach of the ceasefire agreement.
- Ongoing Disputes: This follows weeks of tension over the return of hostage remains and the exact border lines for the “buffer zones” mentioned in the deal.
The State of the Ceasefire
While the ceasefire remains technically in place, it is under extreme pressure.
- Human Toll: Since the truce began in late 2025, over 530 Palestinians and 4 Israeli soldiers have been killed during intermittent flare-ups.
- Diplomatic Response: Mediators from Egypt and Qatar have warned that this “dangerous escalation” could collapse the transition into the next phase of the peace process.
Note: The situation is fluid, and casualty figures are often updated as search-and-rescue teams finish clearing rubble in Gaza City and Khan Younis.
