8th Pay Commission: Application Deadline Extended Again as Delays Mount

8th Pay Commission Appointments Delayed, Application Deadline Extended Again

Good news for those eyeing a role in the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC)! The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has once again extended the application deadline for four Under Secretary (Level 11) positions to June 30, 2025. These crucial roles are on a deputation basis.

Originally, applications were due by May 21, 2025, but the DoPT first pushed the date to June 10, 2025, and now, to the end of next month. This marks the second extension for these important appointments.

Who Can Apply?

If you’re an officer from the All India Services or any Organized Group ‘A’ Services of the Government of India that participates in the Central Staffing Scheme, and you’re eligible for an Under Secretary-level appointment, you’re in luck!

The DoPT is particularly keen on candidates with:

  • Experience in handling pay matters for the Government of India.
  • Strong data analysis skills.

These deputation posts will last for the entire tenure of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Once the commission concludes its work, officers may be considered for other Central Staffing Scheme vacancies based on needs and their remaining eligible tenure.

What Does This Mean for the 8th Pay Commission?

The repeated delays in filling these key positions suggest that the formation of the 8th Pay Commission itself is taking longer than expected. This could mean the new pay panel might miss its anticipated January 2026 deadline.

Consequently, a pensioners’ association has urged the Government to speed up the formation and appointments to avoid further uncertainty and growing unease among central government employees and pensioners.
